Meet Mrs. Spies

I am so excited to be part of the third grade team here at Roland Park.  I am in my fifth year of teaching.  I taught Kindergarten for one year at Carden West School in Pleasanton, CA. before moving to Tampa in 2005.  When I first joined the wonderful group of Hillsborough County Educators, I taught 3rd grade at Lanier Elementary.  The following year I came to Roland Park as a 4th grade Language Arts teacher.  This is will be my third year as part of Roland Park's 3rd grade team.  I earned my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-3) at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.  Since then, I have also been certified in both Elementary Education (1-6) and ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages).  Most recently I began persuing my Master's degree in Reading Education at the University of South Florida.

As I was growing up, when I wasn't at school, I spent every waking hour cheering and dancing.  I began dance at the age of 2 and worked hard enough to earn a spot with a performing ballet company for 6 years.  I started cheering in 4th grade and continued all the way through college.  When I'm not teaching, I like to go to the beach, cheer on The Ohio State Buckeyes, read all types of books and dance. I love to visit new places and meet new people.

I have a very energetic teaching style and believe in a hands-on approach to learning.  As an educator, I  value my job and the opportunity that I will have to teach your child the strategies he/she will need to be successful in the 3rd grade and later in life. Your child’s success in my classroom is my number one priority.

My goal is to communicate with you on a regular basis.  Please feel free to contact me whenever you may have a need.  You can send in a note with your child, email me at amy.spies@sdhc.k12.fl.us or call the school at (813) 872-5212.  Reaching me through email is best.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with both you and your child for the remainder of this school year.  We will share many wonderful learning experiences.  It’s going to be a fantastic adventure!
